Well, we spent the last ten years fighting illiteracy. Obeisity was next in line. Technically this isn't PC. North America is in a mass panic over the rise in fat people and they want it to stop. Techically this is a good thing. Technically, this can nip it in the butt for the next generation (my kids... not). With the help of the influence of television, Celebreties, and their favorite action heroes, we may never see a fat kid again. They are putting the plan into action. But this causes a bad chain reaction. Lower numbers in obeisity means more fat kids will be singled out as a minority (instead of the proud 15% we achieved in 2004). Poor, friendless fat kids get bullied and teased, go home crying. Can't get a date worth shit; and if they don't develope a an agressive attitude, then they will develop an identity complex. This is counteracted by more seminars and school plays about "how our differences make us special"... which we all know never inspired the assholes we grew up with. See, for most people, being fat is something they can change. I can't change the colour of my skin. I can't (surgery isn't the real thing) change my sex. I can change my weight. If it's causing you that much trouble, stop eating junk food, diet, and exercise. That's all there is to it. Now if you have a medical condition, well you're just fucked. |

Yeah. I'm a fatass because I eat lots and hide in my basement writing papers instead of exercising. If I want to lose weight, I'll change that. Hence, expect me to weigh 200 pounds at the end of summer. |

It is a dark day when political correctness invades Sesame street. I mean beyond the rainbow of colors that make up the cast. And the disabled people. And the charcters in the southafrican version that have Aids. Come to think of it Seasame Street was pretty PC to begin with. Everyone remember that Gay Muppet article in the onion? wish i could link to it but stupid onion sold out and charges you to look at archives now... |

Political Correctness hit Sesame Street a long time ago. You know how they killed off Ernie because some mother wrote in to complain that Ernie and Bert seemed homosexual? For the sake of political correctness, the writers had Ernie run over by a bus to avoid controversy. |

Ernie is still there. Though I haven't seen much of Bert lately. Granted I haven't seen an episode in about four months now, and Bert was never a very popular character to begin with. And yeah, Bert and Ernie always seemed like life-partners to me. Two confirmed bachelors living alone with their Ozzy & Harriet twin beds, with those monograms carved in them, the fact that they took bubble baths together... |

I remember that episode. Pretty good, actually. They didn't candy it up or throw in a bunch of P.C. crap of happiness or 'he's gone on a trip/vacation/etc' stuff. Everyone was sad, they talked about it, and it was just there. One of the few full episodes I remembered. Most of my Ses.Street memories are the "12" song and the Muppet News flashes.

Did they have another spin-off? I seem to recall reading/hearing about one that was either only for the States, or an expanded version of the original show or something. Could be mistaken. I don't follow the Elmo-news like some.
