Kurt Vonnegut 1922-2007

I think I discovered Slaughterhouse - 5 when I was in 8th grade, then quickly devoured Cat's Cradle and Welcome to the Monkey House. Looking back, I have to wonder: How the hell did a small town middle school library manage to keep such a subversive writer and corrupting influence from being banned?

On my to-read list: review the guy's work. I'm going to miss him...

I still remember reading Cat's Cradle in grade 9 - one of the very first books I read that didn't have a heroic, good guys win the day ending, and it still has a unique intensity for me because of it. I gotta get his books again.

Damn. I loved Slaughterhouse 5. We don't have nearly enough good writers to be losing them like this.
