IPv6 = scrapping would be worth it.
DNS redistrobution = scrapping would be worth it.
DRM = My god, it burns!
Renaming it "The Internets" as per Bush = ARGH!

Where do you think that gag came from? A geek?

No. I believe it was during the reelection campagn, he slipped up in his speaking, and it's been a gag ever since.

The Internet's early architects built the system on the principle of trust. Researchers largely knew one another, so they kept the shared network open and flexible ? qualities that proved key to its rapid growth.
But spammers and hackers arrived as the network expanded and could roam freely because the Internet doesn't have built-in mechanisms for knowing with certainty who sent what.
...Engineers tacked on improvements to support mobility and improved security, but researchers say all that adds complexity, reduces performance and, in the case of security, amounts at most to bandages in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but all this talk about added security sounds like a veiled attempt to create an ability for 'Internet Police' to monitor everything you send. Sure, it'd be nice not to have spammers anymore, but it has the potential to shut down legitimate file-sharing services and record information about what internet sites you visit just in case your employer (or the government, or your dog, or the rich guy who knows a corrupt worker) might want to use that against you. Surprise of surprises, the reason a lot of websites (often ones which are adult in nature, but not always) will bill your credit card under a false name isn't so your spouse won't get upset when they read the statement, but because people have lost their jobs when their employers checked their credit reports and found flagged entries that "went against their moral leanings." (Note: I read about this happening to people in a nonfiction book for an ethics class, but it was a while ago and I've forgotten the title.) This despite the fact that what people do in their private lives should remain so, and your boss doesn't need to know you bought an inflatable sheep, which was then used in a prank on your roommate, not its intended purpose.
