Bruce Willis Negotiating.... or BWN.

Standard BWN operations parameters.

1 - The Hostage Taker is a criminal.
2 - We do not negotiate with criminals.
3 - Hostage takers are willing to injure innocents and are thus, a liability.
4 - The Hostage Taker will be brought to justice as soon as possible.
5 - All demands are to be ignored. See #2.
6 - We do not 'negotiate', we spread disinformation.
7 - All hostage takers are already obviously guilty. See #4
8 - The Chief 'Negotiator' (See #2) will maintain expert profficiency with all small-arms.

Yeah, which works till your own kid is kidnapped. Easy to say, hard to do when it hits close to home.

Which is why, when you've got family involved, every PD of which I'm aware will keep you away from the scene.

Granted, the ideal solution to a barricade-with-hostage situation is a dead hostage-taker, but I'd rather not allow him to take any hostages with him. Had the BG not been vulnerable to a snapshot, I suspect the Chinese cops would've been more circumspect about "negotiations"
