!

While I'm concerned they'll make it too 'shiny' for what it really is, this does, I must admit, look uber awesome sauce.

So far the biggest worry from fans seems to be that they have no idea how the film will cram all that content into 2-3 hours. I'm agreeing there. Whatever they cut out will be missed, so I hope it's done with life-or-death need.

Myself, I wouldn't be surprised if they excised whole characters and storylines, which, given the nature of the work, would be harmful.

Would have been better, imho, as a TV series, with Joss Whedon in charge.

Is Alan Moore involved at all? Or has he completely disavowed it like every other movie based on his works?

Now I have to re-read the graphic novel to see what they could cut out. <sad> The Mars-Glass Palace looked friggin amazing though. At least they got that right.

Also, Smashing Pumpins? I gotta find that track again.

Beginning is the End is the Beginning.

Friggin amazing song. One of the only good things to come out Batman Forever was they tapped the pumpkins to do some of the soundtrack. This was the unused version...glad it found a home. I always thought it was cinematic win.

Agreed - man, this is making me want to dig out my old Smashing Pumpkins CD's, used to be one of my favorite bands before they (?) broke up.

Having actually talked to Billy Corgan before the official break-up of the 'Pumpkins, I can share only my joy and awe at their older songs being used in such a phoenix-like way. :D

I'd do a heck of a lot to get one of the copies of the vinyl of their last stuff.

Also, how'd you get to talk to Billy Corgan? That right there must have been pretty awesome to do.

saw the watchmen trailer today before the dark knight (epic film btw) and yeah, the song and the trailer rocked. I'm looking forward to it next year.

There's, reportedly, a trailer on TDK. I saw it online first, but I saw the midnight show of TDK so I can't say for certain. Anyhow - SO EXCITED HOLY CRIP ON A CRAPPLE.

PLUS: Smashing Pumpkins on the trailer? Made of win. I'm in love with Billy Corgan all over again.

YAY. :D

EDIT: Okay, went back to read you guys' posts and saw that there IS a trailer on TDK. YAY. I'm gonna go see it again in IMAX this week so I dunno if it'll be on that one either. :) Guess I'll just have to go see it a third time!

before loaning the book to a friend after we saw the trailer at the Dark Knight I re-read it, and I'm convinced it can be done. the largest sacrifice will probably be the stuff wit hthe newspaper vender and the kind reading the black ferighter, along with some of the flashback material. I noticed that there was a lot in the book that was internal, and I bet a lot of that will be cut. we'll probably miss about 60% or so of our favorite trenchcoated loony's journal. some stuff just doesnt translate well from medium to medium.

From what I've heard from Comic Con, Zack Snyder will be releasing an animated movie of the Black Freighter on DVD to coincide with the theatrical release of Watchmen.

Thankfully, WB has basically said "We don't give a rats ass about Fox. We'll run the movie anyway and deal with it."

I hope that still stands now that Fox is waving their little verdict around in the air...

Post subject:  Re: Who watches the.... Now with Reviewstuffs!

Apparently, it did.
I had some trepidation about the compromises that were going to be necessary to get it to screen (IMHO, Moore put enough story in there for 5 or 6 hours). All I could hope for was that they wouldn't queer it in shrinking it to size. There are a few things I have some reservations about [spoiler: such as Eddie Blake/The Comedian, Hollis Mason/Nite Owl the 1st, and the other supporting characters got kind of short shrift in characterization, and I sort of object to Adrian making John the patsy], but they did about as good a job as you could ask. Very faithful to Gibbons' look, and Dan Dreiberg/Nite Owl the 2nd, Walter Kovacs/Rorshach, John Ostermann/Dr. Manhattan were spot-on. I'll call it a win.

After due and solemn consideration, I herewith nominate the movie version for the Packed with Teh Awesomeness Award.
