This is an idea for an Eva fic that came to me lately; it's not finished yet, but here's a taste.

The girl stood outside the train platform and tried to
take stock of things.

It was warm. She was alone. It was sunny. She'd been
called here by someone she barely knew. There were crickets
chirping, and some birds perched on the overhead wires
across the street. The person picking her up was a woman
called Miss Misato Katsuragi; her picture made her out to
be happy, easy-going, and apparently quite proud of her
cleavage. She was carrying two bags, a battered black
hold-all and a backpack; everything else was stuffed into
cardboard boxes, and were on their way. Across the
street and down the road a bit, a boy was watching her;
he stood in the middle of the empty street, far enough
away to almost be a mirage, and just stared. He was
about her height and weight, and age, too. And there was
something about his face; not the expression, but the
face itself. Something familiar. And the eyes; were
they red, or was that a trick of the light? Miss
Katsuragi had said she'd be waiting for her, but she
wasn't there yet. The boy also appeared to have blue
hair. She'd been on the train for quite a few
hours, and was tired, hungry, and thirs-

Waitaminute, boy?

The birds took off, catching her
eye; and when she looked back, the 'mirage'; was
gone.

"Dammit; lost another one."

Any further thoughts on the subject, or
any thoughts at all, were cut off by an explosion,
loud enough and close enough to set the overhead
wires snapping back and forth between their poles,
and send her hands to her ears.

Then there were the planes; VTOL's, she'd heard boys
call them; Vertical Take-Off and Landing planes, looking
more like warped versions of helicopters as they flew
backwards. Like they were trying to get away from
something. These were big, nasty-looking machines of
war, and they were backing away, not attacking. Then
something else showed up.

Oh. Well, with something like *that*, what else
would you do?

Then the VTOL's started shooting at the...thing,
just as she was forming the thought to wonder
what you called a huge, gangly, mostly black
humanoid thing with a red ball in its chest. Then things
just went crazy. She watched as the planes shot at the
thing, the thing playing Super Mario with a fallen
plane, right in front of her, missiles, bullets...
She was thrown on her ass by the noise and explosions
and shock-waves and general chaos as it rained down
around her.

And then a car pulled up in front of her.

"Hi, have you been waiting long?"

Thus, Katsuragi Misato met Ikari Rei for the
first time.

Woah, awesome. Is this kinda like a gender-switch fic kinda thing?

The feeling I'm getting (goes off on own spiel) Gendo died, Yue goes world domination insane, they had a daughter not a son, etc etc.

If so, cool, I don't think I've ever come across something llike that.

Rats, and here I thought I was the only one who'd happened on that idea. My total gender-swap (all males are females and vice-versa) crashed hard when I ran into some characterization snags, but I'm working on a slightly more devoius and insane idea. More details to come soon, once I finish off the intro section and get more ideas on paper.

Right on the button! The working title is called, "Rei as Shinji".



Not quite; this idea came from two sources. One, a fic called "Blasphemy", where the roles of Misata and Shinji, and Rei and Ritsuko are reversed - Rei and Shinji are the adults, the other two are the child pilots. Two, from the snatch of conversation in the episode with the 12th Angel - about baby names. Gendou is still alive, though - I don't plan on making too many cast changes, other than maybe making all three 'Stooges' female; the question I'm asking here is, "What if Shinji were Rei?", i.e. 'What if Yui had had a girl instead?'

In the same vein, you might want to consider switching the Misato/Kaji roles; that is, Kaji picks up Rei to stay with him for awhile, and Misato is the mysterious stranger.

Where's Asuka going to fit in all this?

I think I remeber Blasphemy, but it was only upto the second chapter at the time. I'll have to go read some more. What I'm waiting for it the rest of Assention Of the Lamb by the same aurthor. It has been a Long Long time since there was much progress on it.

Anyway. The idea is great. Post a link when there is something to read.

Hmmm.... will Shinji be the clone then? Ayanami Shinji...... I dunno.

And how about Gendo's relationship with Rei and Shinji? Will he be cold to them? Will he be cold to his daughter?

I'll think about that; I hadn't considered that change - thanks! Though I dunno...three ladies, in one small apartment, with that much stress...could be some great conflict there.



Probably more of a rival, since as 'Shinji's' a girl, they can fight over guys, as well as Eva achievements! ^_^ Alternatively, there could be sexual tension...lots of opportunities.

At the moment (at least) I'll keep it relatively the same; he'll be cold to his estranged, natural child, and have it so that his 'manufactured' child trusts him over anyone else, and interacts positively with him. (Like Rei II)

But then again...

Not to toot my own horn, but in case no one noticed it in the Hentai section, my own fic is up now. Instead of asking 'what if Shinji were Rei?' I ask, 'What if Shinji suddenly became female?' It hasn't proceeded to lemon status yet, so no fears yet (as if anyone here really cares).
