Post POWER!: Magic in the world of ZEROPOINT.
Zeropoint World Physics: Magic and power in Zeropoint.

Magic: the ability to manipulate energies that can't be understood by propper science. In the world of Zeropoint, magic is actually it's own section in physics known as Mentally Controled Energy (MCE). It is described in physics terms as the fifth force, being kin to the Strong Force, Weak Force, Electromagnetic Force, and Gravitational force. Magic is rated in strength as somewhere between the weak and strong forces. It's characterized by its ability to be controlled by organized mental wave patterns. For instance, casting a spell is simply the mind of the caster matching the correct wave pattern to cause an effect. As the most diverse energy, it can effect all other forces to a fantastic extent, bypassing all normal laws of physics.
In sorcery, the difference between an energy beam, and a spell is in how it is projected. Let's take an example of FIREBALL. An explosive energy sphere would be a simple contained charge of energy set to explode, but goes off in a quick radiation flash. FIREBALL is a magically contained flame that disperses with explosive force. Although both may contain the same energy output, fireball is set apart by its effect. It is control of an effect that normally violates physical laws. The MCE allows such violations to take place without dissrupting universal law. Mental wave patterns are the key. The question is, how do you form the right mental wave patterns. Simple. Whenever someone creates a spell, they've perfected a mental wave pattern for it. In order to presserve this pattern in the mind, they create an incantation, or a pattern of spoken words which puts the mind into the right wave pattern to unleash this control. In many instances, a spell is so complex that someone new to it MUST use an incantation to find the correct wave pattern. Many times the caster becomes so skilled in a spell, that they can form most of the spell's wave pattern in their head without saying the incantation, but usually executes it with the final words. (Example of what I mean, Lina inverse has an incantation to cast Dragon Slave, later on we see her simply shout Dragon Slave without ever running through the whole spell.) This is known as incantation locking. Although spell incantations may come in all sorts of languages, there is no need to worry about translations. As long as the mental wave pattern can be correctly interperetted in its new spoken form, the translation between languages is moot. One important note. Magic requires at least a little energy to cast. Since all but a Zeropoint would violate the 'get something from nothing' law of physics by just unleashing an effect, the power of one's spell may depend on how much energy can be transfered into it.

In other words, will power. It all boils down to will. If you know what you want, you can do it. The stronger you are(physical strength) and the more will power you have(meantal strength); the stronger the spell.

In other words, the more will and concentration you have, along with strength, the bigger the bang for your dollar.

Or in the words of the Fifth Element (The movie, cannot remember the character name.)
"Big Badda-Boom!"
