A question of the Impact.
Okay; having picked up the DVD's for EoE and D&R, and having read a lot of Eva fics, (and having a little too much time on my hands, hehe), I thought I'd ask; which type of Eva fic do you prefer? One that sticks to the script re: Third Impact, alters it, or pre-empts it?
As for myself, I'm not sure; the most accurate answer that I can give (which is somewhat of a cop-out) is E. If it's shitty writing, you'll probably never know what happens in the end, because you won't get that far!
Any thoughts?

I'm mostly A), everyone except Asuka and Shinji getting killed and turned into pink goo.
But if it's well written, and catches my attention... I'm flexable.
But that's surprisingly rare. Well, maybe not so surprisingly, but there's very few Eva fics I've read that have held my attention for more than a few pages.

Third Impact was only a means to convey the meaning of humanity, etc. If the fic can pull that off without it, then that's great. I preffer when Third Impact occurs mostly as normal, but then the end is changed (everyone comes back, etc.)

While I must admit I do like the canon-and-near-canon Third Impact, sometimes I love being surprised.

Like the 'Love Eva'(girlfriend of steel 2) game?
seriously i don't care as long as its good... but then again i mostly read humor fics so haven't read that much fic on 3rd Impact... apart from Higher Learning of course... and Garden of Eva..... i'm still trying to decide if i should class it as good, desperate or down right plotless

You should check out Hotwire's works, his "Together We Stand" is almost as good as Higher Learning.

I'm gonna have to finish reading HL. I'm so lazy! ^_^
If I had to chose between having or not having Third Impact, I'd be leaning towards not - but if everyone comes back at the end, that's cool too. Happy endings are the bomb, yo.
[EDIT: Having now seen EoE, looks like my comment about people coming back was a little...off. Oh well.]

I truly belive that shinji could have stopped third impact if his confidenc and selfworth hadn't been so baddly eroded, but then again that was kind of the point to the last couple of angels.
I like a good story, if it works around third impact then great, the whole world dieing is not something I really want. If it follows it striktly then so be it. I'll still injoy it if it's well wirtten (even if it's not in some cases)

Well...when you consider third impact...you gotta consider why it was there in the first place. Heres my theory, for those of you bored enough to read it:
Usually, when people have thoughts of suicide, they fear the thoughts almost as much as they embrace them. People who think of killing themselves often deperately try to think of another alternative, hoping that if they "reason" their way out of their predicament they can be happy again.
I'd say that Evangelion was mostly a way for Hideaki Anno to convince himself that life was worth living. I think the end lesson was that there cannot be happiness without pain...so people have to endure pain. In the end, Shinji decides to live in order to still have a chance to be happy. Unlike others...I consider eoe to actually have a happy ending.
So yah...I say if you still convey the original message...or one similar....write whatever you want.
