Post Any fanfics out there worth reading?
Did a half-assed search of the boards to see if this topic had come up before, didn't find anything. So here ya go.

I remember... oh, ages ago, I used to be able to go off and look for fanfics to read when I got bored, and I remember finding some pretty decent ones.

Just went looking again and... damn. Blargh. Ugh. Even went to fanfiction.net, which was a mistake. Spent an hour torturing my poor brain on trying to read junk, only to find maybe one or two things worth reading, which were part of a series that hasn't been updated since 2002. Yarg.

So, aside from Fiss's stuff, and Hotwire's, and CoaEG, are there any fanfics out there worth reading? Something you've read and thought, "geeze, they could be a professional author!"? Anything you've went back to and read a second time?

Really, my standards aren't high. All I expect is a decent attempt at using spellcheck, some familiarity with the english language and grammar, capitilization, characters remaining in character unless there's a reason for them to change, and if I don't know the show, something that's neat anyway.

Is that so hard?

:(

You can head to Total Recoil (Assuming you haven't read the version I posted here.) and read that. A few laughs from the version of Tigerclaw just before I started locking down his permanant character traits for Zeropoint.

You can also hunt up some of my work at TMFFA for some Tenchi Fics.

http://www.tmffa.com

Look up my author name (admiraltigerclaw) I'm on the first page.
Into the danger zone is old, and vastly incomplete. Not to mention the new data I have brought in from the Tenchi Manga and from GXP makes some things out of date and alters the universe of TM slightly. But it's a good read said some people I've talked with. (Kudos if you can find the MST of it. MSTer of it has something against Self Inserts I think. They even made a list of their nitpicky points.)

MST WARFARE, the FIC, is short, rather pointless, and is simply good for a laugh or two.

Adventures in MST Warfare is a better choice for some higher class comedy than the forrunner...

Flight of the Hastings has four chapters out... I'm working on the fifth here... and I expect it to rank in as usefully decent in a Tenchi world. I've even sketched the design of the hastings in my graphpaper notebook... plan to finish it later and drop it into my computer. Anyone do 3D modeling?

Some suggested fanfic works NOT by me...

Curse of the fanboys
(http://www.fanboys.com or http://carnage.fanfic.org)

No Need for Space Pirates: The Many Adventures of Ted, The Intergalactic Space Pirate. (When I saw the word TED, I pounced on the link. EXCELENT story. Just the way the first scene opened got a laugh. NACHOS!)
(TMFFA)

No Need for Dragon Balls
The ONLY Tenchi/DBZ crossover I ever read that WORKS!
If you can find it on TMFFA... good.
(http://www.russael.cjb.net) <----Hopes the old link still works.

Now... for a few by his Lordship Chaos. Brought to you by the same man who brings you the famous CURSE OF THE FANBOYS! series...
http://www.moonromance.net
Go to the fanfics, look under author names under L until you locate all Lord Chaos' stories.
>When Magical Girls go Wrong, and When Magical Girls go Wrong R
>Mamouru Chiba needs a hug.
>Cat O Nine Tails
>Lunatic Fringe, Cat O Nine Tails II.

Out of the stories chaos has up, those are the ones I suggest.

Between all the fics I've listed... you should have about a month of straight reading... assuming you don't live any normal life.

IF I can remember some others... I'll let you know.

not seasoned for slogging through the muck then eh? FF.Net is a terrifying place which containes the most evil of evils...but like pandora's box, you'll occasionally find a gem.

Unfortunately, i'm a notorious slasher. So digging up a fic that I presume you would enjoy is close to an impossible task for me. :/ And strangely enough, the two things that come to mind first are both in one of the most slash ridden of fandoms: Lord of the Rings.

Although...neither have the most intense of plot...but there's lots of gratuitious badfic author shootings. Good for a cheap laugh at the end of the day. not reccomended in large quantities.

I'd suggest Protecters of the Plot Continium (PPC original: http://www.misssandman.com/PPC/ppc.html) and OFUM (the original fanfiction university fic out there; http://www.misssandman.com/LOTR/ofum.html) if you have any sort of love for LotR fanfiction.

Way back in the day, I used to read a lot of ranma 1/2 fics by <a href=http://www.geocities.com/lord_archive/>Lord Archive</a>. He also has a long-running and very good Digimon series, which takes a darker, more mature turn than the dub version ever tried. There's a lot of lemons scattered around, but they're tasteful side-story additions to his regular work for the most part.

Also way, way back, <a href=http://www.mmhp.net>The Mega Man Home Page</a> has a very well written series of books about everybody's favorite Blue Bomber. Again, well written, easy reads, and not terribly confusing. I've read all the stuff there at least seven times, and it never gets boring.

I've learned that the only way to find good stories on FFN is to go to your category, then use the filter to change the rating to "All", since they feel people aren't responsible enough to have the R rated ones listed by default, and also choose a Word Count of at least 10,000...probably 20,000 or more...
...THEN you have to look at the drop list of chapters and see if it has an 'Epilogue' or 'Last Chapter'...or something that can be easily seen to be a last chapter..

I've been known to look at the end of the last chapter to see if there is a "The End" there before I start reading...

FFN has gone to shit...

My stuff...

http://www.fanfiction.net/profile.php?userid=109656

Lately, I'm dedicated to making better quality fanfics, ie: stuff that defies the norm; originality, more well-constructed scenes with subtle messages, that sort of thing. R&R EOE Epilogue for a second episode.

FF.net isn't so bad, it's a fairly okay place...Well, kinda sorta....

I reccomend "Genma's Daughter" and "Equal Halves", both very good Ranma fics, and both completed. Will give links later... or you could Google it.

And then there's my FF.net profile...but I mostly do Gatekeepers:

[Semi-Off-Topic]
Yea....I would have just said to go to my homepage, but as you can see from my avatar, it's down...and has been down for a month. System it was on crashed, so it'll be down a while longer...
...my girlfriend is getting new space near the end of the year that's going to be a reseller account, and since I'm her Techie, I'm getting free space out of the deal..so I should have my stuff back up by then... I keep a good link page and a good list of some of the best fics...
[/Semi-Off-Topic]

Besides, you also have to think... Good fanfics...also depend on what type of fanfic do you want to read, and what source you want to have one from...

Lately, I've been into any and all Harry Potter fics... tough to find good ones after you clean out the major ones..but I'm still looking...

Side note...best thing I've found to do on FFN is to find a really good story that you like, then go to the Author's Profile...and look through their favorites list... that's how I've been searching FFN...not by the search, or by just going to the category... I found a user with 101 favs, and I'm working my way through that list... (and any lists of the good authors on that one, and so on...)

Yep. You kind find gems that way... anyways, a few of my favorites:

Bloodlines (Naruto) http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1351778/1/

Silver Cross (RK) http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1502239/1/

Here's a good one; "Paradise Lost", by Andy Kent. Also, anything by Random1377; the latest stuff he's come out with is gold - look for "When all that's left is stillness" in particular.

Woah, muchos gratitude folks. I'm kinda hoping this thread will turn into a good pointer for good fanfiction in general, for whoever. A kind of community crap-filter.

With that in mind, I'd like to add the PSDF to the list of OMG so good stuff to check out.

Thanks for renewing my faith in fan made fiction, I was wavering there for a bit. :)

Here's a few good sites I've found:

Kenshin: http://rkdreams.com/ Anne-neko's stuff rocks!

Harry Potter: http://www.witchfics.org/anna/index.html I especially recommend the 'Roman Holiday', 'Jewel of the Nile', 'Last Tango in Paris' series. They are wonderfully written. Most fics I like I save to my computer, so I don't have all the sites I should. But if I find more, I'll post them here.

Scroll down to the evangelion fanfiction at the bottom.

The beginning is a bit slow, and the writing is lacking in the first few chapters. However, it picks up very fast after that. This is, along with Higher learning, my favorite evangelion fanfic. I hope people are still checking this thread because I'd like to have more people read this fic. It's unfortunate that few have heard of it.
