Well, first of all, blowing up the mountain was an accident. The character could use spell-fire, and could therefor absorb a certain number of spell lvls. When we were confronited by a powerful artifact (well over a hundred spell lvls) the bard attempted to absorb them all. She...blew up...as did the mountain. The entire party was buried alive, and there wasn't enough left of the bard to get a klenex damp.

The player hadn't really done anything else of note, good or bad, though to be fair he'd only been playing Senies character for a few weeks.

Oh so you mean that he had nothing to do with making the character in the first place. When I am playing D&D I always find that it is more fun to play with a character that I have created, instead of just playing a character that is given to me. Still it sounds almost heroic not idiotic to try and take out this artifact by him self with a character that he was just given. Boy what a way for a character to go.

I agree that it's better to play a character that you've made yourself. But he chose to play that character and made enough changes to it that it was hardly identifiable as the same character when he took it over. As for heroic...does it count as a sacrifice if you simply don't realize that the character is going to die? I don't think so. He was used to playing in twink campaigns where such an action would have succeded with little or no concequence but with a large reward. We don't play that way.

Hey Binky before you go spouting off about things that you don't understand I think that you should ask the people that are actually involved. If you think that I had no idea what MY action would have done then you are sadly mistaken. True I never planed that the mountain would have collapsed, but I did understand that the character wouldn't make it. Also I did have talks about the character with Lady Senie and I was under the impression that I was allowed to kill off the character (either so I could bring in my own or so that it had an ending) as long as it was in an impressive manner. I also talked it over with fiss and desided that if Senie wanted to play the character again it would be possible to reintroduce her character. Thats why nothing was found of her character.
Oh and PS your lucky that I convinsed Hotaru to let me respond to your message rather than let her respond, trust me.

That's fine, Kersputz. I figured that it was either her or you I was responding to. I was calling it as I see it. I fully expect to face an explosion next time I see her. I'm not going to appologize for having my opinion of the matter. IF I was wrong about your motives at the time, I'm sorry, but that's how I saw it. I responded to the messages instead of others because my response was more polite than others would have been.

Oh and PS if Hotaru wants to respond either online or in person she's perfectly welcome to. I don't need you to stop her from speaking her mind.

Woah woah woah...

Now, Senie's character was a spare we had when Kersputz was wanting to play and since it was kind of spur-of-the-moment, worked out well. Even better when the whole explody-magic thing was added on. VERY cool concept, but several things lead to the eventual explosion of the Bard.

-First of all, the Meat-Tank Paladin wet himself instead of helping to smite.
-Second of all, the Dragon wasn't going to be THAT huge in power-level, but I backed everyone into a corner and it was the only way to explain it as a mega-artifact-of-doom since you guys nuked the evil-bad-guy contolling it in like, 4 rounds flat (IF that) when he should have been able to nuke you. ^_^
-Being that nobody else was able to do anything except chip away (and yes, I had a plan...but nobody figured out the weekness in time and...well...it happens) the only logical thing to do was for the bard to try to channel all the magical energy.
-And yes, Senie OK'ed the spooky awesome doom of her character well in advance. If you guys found another way, then awesome. But if not...it was the last session before a long break that I could have used to introduce new characters if necessary.

A few bad/lucky/unlucky rolls caused the rest.

It actually worked out story wise better than I had planned, but we all know I'm on crack and my DMing skills are still below mega-awesome.

Regardless, due to the long break we had afterwards, there wasn't any oportunity to continue with a new character for Kersputz here, and I believe he had other campaigns going so it seemed a moot point.

Kudos on the session...it was spectacularly messy and fun, and I'm sorry if I forced any stupid decisions on anyone. Remember...

In D&D...NO idea is stupid. Only the dice determin if its smart or stupid. Need proof? My drow is still alive. 8)
