Post subject:  Bill Hicks

I've been watching a bill kicks DVD lately. the man is one of my heroes- not for the dirty jokes (which were funny as hell I must add) but because of the way he spoke his mind. take rock music. he despised the pre-packaged pop stars I loathe today back when I was just starting to hate my sisters obsession with the New Kids on the Block. he hated so called artists who just got on stage and wriggled to a song someone else wrote to music someone else composed. and he said so. with venom. he didn't care how many people hated him for insulting their favorite 'band' or being generally mean. he was hoping to get some people to think about art instead of just consuming it. he wanted his rock stars to sing from their heart. it infuriated him that people like Madona and George Michael were so worshiped by the media.
I guess it comforts me a little to know that the problems I have with the world and the things that drove me to stop watching television (two years and counting) have been there for some time. maybe they were always there. maybe it just looks worse today because of the constant bombardment.

that doesn't stop me from hating Hanna Montana and the Jonis brothers. and for the record, just to get it out in the open I'd like to adress the fans and writers of some of the Hip hop music and R&B I've heard recently. I have a important public service announcement: "yeah. uh-huh." is not a lyric.

thank you for your time.
